Barbers Pole Worms can lay up to 10,000 eggs PER DAY!!
This is something we learnt at the recent TFS Parasites and Pastures Field Day from keynote speaker, Matt Playford of Dawbuts Animal Health. TFS invited Matt to address Members at the field day to help launch their new worm egg count project. After also learning that 90% of NSW’s worm issues are caused by Barbers Pole, Brown Stomach and Black Scour, 3 of the most prevalent worms in the TFS area, it cannot be denied that Worm Egg Count testing and culturing is an essential tool in any sheep producers management toolbox.
With all this in mind the TFS Board have developed a project that is designed to help members proactively target worm activity on the Southern Tablelands. If you are already a TFS member and would like to be involved in this project, please contact us for further information. If you aren’t a member but would like to become one, please also contact us. TFS members are entitled to free worm and soil testing that totals more than the membership fee!
